Bracken County Meet 3/26/11

We had a great showing today at the Bracken County meet. Nora Fremin and Tyler Grant were both awarded MVPs of today's meet. Tyler took 4 individual 1st place medals. Nora received 3- 1st place medals and a 2nd place medal in her events. Today was a great day for Carroll Co. Track and Field athletes! We are looking forward to another great meet next week when we visit Shelby County.

March 22nd Home Meet #1

Last night the Panthers were in action at home for their outdoor meet of the season.  We competed against local rivals Henry, Trimble, and Owen as well as Northern Kentucky's Holmes High School.  The Panthers had some strong showings from Tyler Grant (who took 1st in the 110 Hurdles, Triple Jump, and as part of the 4x100 Meter Relay Team), Nora Fremin (1st in the 100 Hurdles, 1st in the 100, 2nd in the 300 Hurdles, 2nd as part of the 4x200 Meter Relay), MaryEsther Fremin (1st in Long Jump, 2nd in 4x200), Evan Mefford (1st in 300 Hurdles), Taylor Byrd (1st in the 400), Ashley Srouder (1st Shot Put), Raenah Hawkins (2nd Discus), Vanessa Arteaga (2nd 3200 Meter Run), (Ben Newby 2nd Discus).

The Panthers are in action again on Friday at Western Hills High School in Frankfort for the 3rd Annual Wolverine Open as well as Saturday at Bracken County High School in the 1st Glacier Invite. 

Below are the complete results including team scores from the meet.  The Panthers did fall a little short last night due to not competing in every event as we are still trying to figure out where the best fit for all of our athletes will be.  Thanks to all those students (Kendyal Curry, Jill Butcher, Alicia Carr, Nancy Kinman, EB Martinez, Tiffany Gray, Joe Gibbs, and James Chaffins), former students (Ana Jimenez and Chris Satterly), staff (Dan Mahoney, Lynn Eaglin, Johnny Leep, and Randy Mefford) who came out last night to help and make our 1st home meet of the season a great success.  Even with some technical difficulties and having to re-run the boys 4x100 all athletes
were finished and out of the meet around 9 PM.

*Note the x's do not mean a Disqualification...it means that the athletes score was not recorded because they were the 3rd or lower placing member of the team and their mark did not count towards team score.

Like promised here are the rest of the results from the meet yesterday.  The girls finished 14th of 21 teams (despite missing Senior leader MaryEsther Fremin).  The boys finished 12th of 24 behind the strenght of Dylan Jack's High Jump 2nd Place Finish and Tyler Grant's 2nd Place Finish in the Triple Jump.  We also had some strong showing from the youngest members of the Panther team.  8th graders Kelly Layton and Kirsten Arvin had strong performances in the 800 and 400 respectively beating several competitors and getting some great meet experience in the process.  Freshman Taylor Byrd broke the 1 minute mark for his 400 in only his 2nd meet of the season (despite no blocks, a standing start, and the difficulty of having to run with a 3 turn stagger in a sprint event).  Freshman Ashley Srouder placed 12th out of 20 in the shot put with a very strong 26-6.5.  The full results will be linked from this blog page to http://www.kytrackxc.com/. 51st Annual Mason-Dixon Indoor Games

The Panthers performed well at todays 51st Annual Mason-Dixon Indoor Games at Louisville's Broadbent Arena.  In the 55 meter Dash Nora Fremin took 1st Place.  Nora also placed 6th in the 55 meter hurdles.  Tyler Grant placed 2nd in the Triple Jump while Dylan Jack matched his State qualifying jump from last year to take 2nd place in the High Jump.  We will be back later to post some pictures as well as full team scores and additional results.  Thanks.
